Normani Releases Fun and Upbeat "Motivation" Paying Homage to the Early 2000s (Review)

“Motivation” serves as Normani’s debut solo single, released on August 16, 2019. The song has a classic pop vibe that was strongly missed in today’s pop world.

Normani was part of girl group, Fifth Harmony from 2012 to 2018. She released about 7 featured tracks in 2018 to familiarize herself into the music industry as a solo artist.

Before this drop, I was only a fan of her song “Love Lies.” Waves was cute, but it was too generic for me. I’m gonna be nice and not even mention her song with Sam Smith, but hey, at least she got another top ten out of that one.

Before the release of “Motivation,” it just seemed like Normani was trying to release anything to have something out there.

However, this song will solidify her next era as a solo artist if she plays her cards right.

“Motivation” has the transcendent sound that Normani needed to make people say, oh hey, she’s actually a great artist that deserves more credit. It shows off her ability to be taken seriously as a main pop girl. The lyrics are the perfect pop-layer of catchy and rhythmic, without sounding too bubblegum; a formula that is often misused in the pop world.

On top of that, the music video puts her in a whole new realm.

When I tell you that here at ExposingSMG Inc. (I’m so extra), ya girls were SHOOK.

That rain scene?

The homage paid to Beyonce and Britney Spears?

The choreography?

The REPRESENTATION that mainstream pop desperately needs?

Normani, you have grabbed our attention and it is well deserved.
